@Eileen- That...I love love love winter reading!

@Eileen- That's encouraging. The lack of comments on the blog sometimes makes me feel like I'm writing to the great vast void, but I know that's not true. I love my readers!

@Elizabeth- None of the books listed would be too difficult for you. Kingsolver writes more complicated prose than any of these writers. Freedom's not a hard read; it's just long. I'll be interested to hear how you liked Lacuna.Hollyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06288757682987893354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9176707597013847097.post-63159192611941830352012-01-05T17:49:58.891-05:002012-01-05T17:49:58.891-05:00Firstly I am not smart enough to read most of your...Firstly I am not smart enough to read most of your recommendations but I really enjoyed Wally Lamb's books.

I reread The Poisonwood Bible this year and have Lacuna on reserve at the library.

I too am fascinated by polygamy and enjoyed The 19th Wife. I also liked watching Big Love until I got too sad for Barb (the first wife).

Even though you can't count on me to finish Freedom I am going to try out some of your recommendations :-)Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15640295303098476856noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9176707597013847097.post-75938664373187435862012-01-05T13:20:05.096-05:002012-01-05T13:20:05.096-05:00Talked to my friend Sarah yesterday and she brough...Talked to my friend Sarah yesterday and she brought up your book list. And I thought it was so cool ... here we were, two crazy chicks in our kitchens, discussing your blog. We decided we're both onto "Great Expectations" and we're chasing Lori Lansens' tail, all because of you. (Got my hands on "The Girl" yesterday at the library.) Wonder how many other faithful readers are talking behind your back...Eileenhttp://www.eileenbutton.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9176707597013847097.post-56365072680304155432012-01-04T05:33:05.755-05:002012-01-04T05:33:05.755-05:00Yohooo! And that was so long ago that I don't remember a single thing about it. Too bad, I would totally love to talk to you about Patty and Blue, whoever they are. At times like these I rue not living near an awesome English-language library. Because I would love to try a bunch of these books out, but I don't want to have to buy them to do so. Ah well. Here's to another year in books!Nikki (www.bookpunks.com)https://www.blogger.com/profile/03930429409262902365noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9176707597013847097.post-87725750395848033862012-01-03T18:45:18.281-05:002012-01-03T18:45:18.281-05:00Great list Holly, I still have trouble with the no...Great list Holly, I still have trouble with the not finishing a book I start, but I'm getting better. Freedom is actually on my list for this year as several have suggested it. Smiling at Eileen's comment because she gave me Labor Day after my surgery last year and I still haven't gotten to it yet. Lots of winter nights ahead of me for reading. And as always, love your blog.Maryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14123225639127961679noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9176707597013847097.post-40352881326956958512012-01-03T11:54:35.090-05:002012-01-03T11:54:35.090-05:00Life of PI!!!!!!!! I think I will give it another go!
Thanks
AngelaButton Bird Designshttp://www.buttonbirddesigns.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9176707597013847097.post-27024409081485499342012-01-02T17:22:36.500-05:002012-01-02T17:22:36.500-05:00Poor Heidi! You haven't learned the "if ...Poor Heidi! You haven't learned the "if I don't like the book, I don't have to read it" rule yet. (I slogged through an incredibly boring Mozart bio simply because I had started it.) I loved Sophie's Choice, but I absolutely abhorred Lie Down in Darkness. Someday I'll try Nat Turner.

@Jessica- Wally Lamb is incredible! She's Come Undone was my favorite, but I've enjoyed all of his novels. He came out with a short Christmas novella a couple of years ago I haven't read but- yeah- he needs to crank books out faster!!! Maybe I'll try The Girl etc. John read it and liked it a lot.

@Eileen- I have a Amazon gift card- I'm going to download Labor Day. Thanks! Look forward to hanging with you a lot a lot!Hollyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06288757682987893354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9176707597013847097.post-13002864776438760052012-01-02T13:02:05.589-05:002012-01-02T13:02:05.589-05:00Again ... oh my word, you are the BEST! My discovery of the year is Joyce Maynard. I loved her book "Labor Day." Couldn't put it down. Can't wait to be in your face 24/3 in just a few months!Eileenhttp://www.eileenbutton.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9176707597013847097.post-4992708349868574552012-01-02T12:17:57.317-05:002012-01-02T12:17:57.317-05:00I was a big fan of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...I was a big fan of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The second novel in the trilogy was good too and I am reading the third now. I also liked The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb (I have read three of his books and wish the man would write more!). ANY Harlen Coben book is fabulous - I read a few this year and I know (you may laugh) but I love Nicholas Sparks and The Best of Me was a fabulous book as expected. I'm a big Ted Dekker fan and LOVED the Circle trilogy (though that was not something I read last year) and Dean Koontz is an old favorite of mine as well :) I'll shut up now ;)Jessicahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15550346625004276669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9176707597013847097.post-46697276529883145392012-01-02T10:31:44.990-05:002012-01-02T10:31:44.990-05:00I am still trying to drudge through Sophie's C...I am still trying to drudge through Sophie's Choice. The good news is it has given me a springboard to other information and works that I love (Maus by Art Spiegelman).

I never thought about counting the books I have read for the year. I make the kids log all the books they read, and I try to keep track of mine, but I always seem to fall short somewhere along the way!Heidihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05152901528565504850noreply@blogger.com
